Many of them who use LARAVEL or Symfony like frameworks need to start. Others may require your backup to run through an installation routine to recreate the database. MAMP pro comes with loaded features, one of the main attraction is Hosts Management. From that point on, it rather depends on what facilities your hosting server provides for restoring complete backups of your site, Some hosts have a restoration utility that will recreate everything in a single operation. This is often achieved by using a backup utility in your local server environment that backs up everything into a local zip file for uploading to your server. I guess the M in MAMP can be misleading as the M stands for Mac ( Apache, MySQL and PHP).
When choosing a local development servers to setup, it is surprising how many people assume MAMP is only for MacOS users and the alternative for Windows is WAMP.
